"Stan Hansen was as important as anyone could possibly be. He knew what it took to draw money and he knew being physical was necessary. He could have been a star anywhere, but I thank God he came to All Japan for us."
— Terry Funk
In addition to the stories about his time in the U.S., Stan Hansen's account of his wrestling career is a veritable guidebook of professional wrestling in Japan. In "The Last Outlaw," he tackles every subject imaginable as he educates and entertains readers with his stories about the promoters and their promotions, how the Japanese promoters operate their business behind the scenes, touring the country on the wrestling bus, the nightlife in the big cities, and how the sport in Japan differs from that in the U.S.
Stan also shares stories of his time in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, and tells countless road tales about fellow wrestlers, like Andre the Giant, Terry Funk, Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta, Bill Watts, Dick Murdoch, Ole Anderson, Harley Race, and Antonio Inoki.
He goes into detail about his time in the AWA, how he came to win the AWA title, his confrontation with Verne Gagne prior to walking out, and what he really did with the title belt when he left the territory. Stan tells about wrestling in the WWWF, giving a detailed description of the match in which he broke Bruno Sammartino's neck, the matches that followed, and the subsequent problems he had with Vince McMahon Sr.
Stan relates hundreds of great stories about his runs with both New Japan Pro Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling, including details of his meeting with Giant Baba that led to him leaving one for the other.
And what would a "Stan Hansen book" be without personal stories about the time he spent with Bruiser Brody how they first met, the story behind their becoming a team, spending time in the evenings on the streets and in the clubs of Japan, and his own, personal insight into the "real" Bruiser Brody.
Stan usually did what he was asked him to do, but he didn't want promoters to direct his life, so he became independent and took care of his own bookings. He refused to conform to what everyone expected. Most of all, he didn't follow a script. He was innovative and ad lib, two character-istics that took him to the top of the wrestling business. As the wrestling business changed and became "sports entertainment," he persevered and continued to wrestle “his style,” which was “act and react.”
Just as Stan reached the pinnacle of success in his chosen profession, his story is also destined to become one of the most informative books ever written about professional wrestling.
Travel down the road with Stan Hansen — The Last Outlaw.

When I first saw this book was available, I knew I had to have it. I've been a big Stan Hansen fan for many years. Even though it took me a while to finish it (it's a long book), it was worth every minute of my time. Out of all the wrestling books I've read over the years, I would say this one was in by top three. One of the things I really enjoyed, was that Stan actually stayed away from all the he did, she did type of nonsense. His career has been quite interesting from beginning to end. From his days starting out with the Funks, to his WWF run with Bruno and later to his days teaming with Brody, DiBiase, Spivey, and Gordy. He was loyal to Giant Baba and his Japan promotion and not surprisingly did most of his business with nothing more then a handshake and a promise. Hansen was also one of the guys who was wise enough to save his money and also getting out of the business early enough. I don't want to go into too much about the books details, except to say that it was a really great book and I would recommend it to anyone who is a wrestling fan.Product details

The Last Outlaw eBook Stan Hansen Scott Teal Reviews
This book could be subtitled "An American Wrestler's Guide to Puroresu." Only Hansen can give such a detailed account of Japanese wrestling and help non-Japanese understand it. It was great to read his accounts of jumping promotions, his friendship with Brody and his tenure as AWA champion. Are you a wrestling fan? You need this book!
I wasn't terribly sucked in. As someone who reads a lot of these wrestler autobiographies, this book's best use is as a cross reference. It has some interesting road stories here and there, but probably nothing the enthusiast hasn't already heard ad nauseam. It's not horrible though; I'd recommend it to anyone as serious about the wrestling business as I am, who wants everyone's take on the history and its players.
Very good book and it was well written. I knew Stan Hansen from watching him on TV wrestling in the USA - I did not realize that Stan Hansen spent most of his career in Japan wrestling. Lot of his book naturally revolves around his time in a Japan. For me there was a bit too much about Japan and not enough about his time in the USA wrestling. However I am very glad I purchased and read his book - it was very entertaining and I would recommend it
Interesting read. I found out a lot of information on Stan Hansen that I had not previously come across. I wish that the book had contained more stories around his US experiences and US based wrestlers. Still some information of the US variety, not a great deal. A lot of detail regarding his times in Japan and the wrestlers he encountered in Japan. If you enjoyed Japanese wrestling during the 80's and 90's, you will absolutely love the book. If you only care about the US wrestling from this time frame, the book will probably lack some for you.
Interesting book. If you're looking for a book that tells about Japanese wrestling & about what goes on during one of their tours then this is the book you want. If you want American wrestling then you won't like it as much cause Stan spent most of his career in Japan. I bought this cause I thought it would be a different perspective on wrestling & it was. When I finished this I understood more about how the business worked in Japan & what it was like. Stan tells stories & helps you understand how things worked also. I might not have known who some of the Japanese stars was that he mentioned but it was still a good read. I guess it just depends on what you want to read about. I did enjoy it.
Stan "the Lariat" Hansen! One of my all time favorites. This book was a joy as it is written from the heart and not kayfabe like so many others. His personal struggles and triumphs can be easily identified with. His recollection of his time with the late great Bruiser Brody brings back memories as I have a ton of his matches on tape still to this day. A man of conviction and integrity to his craft was truly inspiring to me. His days with New Japan Pro Wrestling & All Japan Pro, WWWF, AWA, ECW, & WCW definitely strikes a cord as I have witnessed many of these encounters. His ability to make a match believable is a lost art. As a kid I knew wrestling was predetermined but for some reason Stan's matches seemed real to me. lol. His explanation of his style lends credibility to his character as a man and as a professional athlete. To make a long story short, this is a great read and I don't mind giving him a free advertising endorsement.
Due to wrestling almost exclusively in Japan Stan Hansen was always a mystery. Most wrestling fans knew he was a great talent achieved success, but in a time before the internet and cable TV, we were not familiar with how he did it. Hansen tells all in this great autobiography, really educating fans on the Japanese style of wrestling. He also includes many stories and anecdotes of Japanese society and culture, his love for which in undeniable. The only criticism I have is the book could use some editing. A few statements are made over and over and become a bit tedious towards the end.
