SUMMER OF LOVE? NOT QUITE.
The rave scene is in full swing in Denver with hot new DJs mixing sick tracks. Brand goes for the music and the energy and is eager to bring Kelly.
A DEADLY DANCE.
But the music is laced with magic that puts the living into comas from which they emerge as unearthly creatures, while it also calls forth the long-dead to dance to the tune composed by an ancient god.
Can Kelly stop the music or will she succumb to its deadly call?
Zombie Rising The Fourth Kelly Chan Novel eBook Gary Jonas Rebecca Hodgkins
I really enjoyed this book. The first Kelly Chan book I read, Subhuman Resources, had at its center the transformation of the Ghouls, in the readers eyes, from disgusting eaters of dead flesh to three dimensional, fully realized, emotionally moving creatures.
This book, for me, found its center in the retelling of ancient stories, and the stitching together of several myths, from the Hopi and the Anasazi to Lovecraft and Kokopelli. I don't know enough about the myths to know how accurate the writer was, but they pulled all the threads together with such confidence I assumed it was all true. Even at the end of the book you see those last few strands being tied together, in a very satisfying way.
I also likes that Kokopelli, everyone's favorite little souvenir prankster from Colorado, turns out to be kind of a dick. :)
They get the details of Denver exactly right, so much so that when I pass the key lines at I25 and I70, I keep a lookout for DGI.
The series keeps getting better, and the character of Kelly Chan keeps growing more rich and complex. Can't wait for the next book.

Zombie Rising The Fourth Kelly Chan Novel eBook Gary Jonas Rebecca Hodgkins Reviews
Highly recommend! Very exciting and full of action. Characters develop. Suitable for young teens and tweens. Highly recommended by me
I have read all of Gary Jonas' Jonathan Shade and Kelly Chan novels, except the last J. Shade (starting now). Gary Jonas writes very well, I like the characters, love the little universe he's created. Keep writing, Gary!
Good read, but not the Kelly Chan that you are used to in the other books. I think that we need at least one more transition book from the robotic, barely female Kelly as written by Jonas, to the hectic, friendly girly girl of Hodgkins. I miss the cocky Brand, and instead get a secretly soft Afghanistan war veteran. Still, a good story, and the new author has potential with her ability to keep you guessing.
There's always action around Kelly Chan, but now she's growing beyond what DGI created. That's a very good thing for fans. I also liked that some of the action involves a Native American mythos as part of the plot.
Zombie Rising by Gary Jonas has Kelly fighting zombies, vampire zombies, giant bugs and dealing with a romance issue. I think the romance issue is the hardest part, she knows how to kill everything else.
This is a fun romp with a rather interesting female character who is evolving a bit, in a most effective and interesting way. I have enjoyed the books by this author and find them intriguing and well written. This is another good one and the additional author is making good changes in the evolution of the story. Good fun..
